I'm new to this site, so bear with me, but I have a serious suggestion for a venture:
A "Straight-Edge" Alliance.
For those who don't know what "straight-edge" means, it is a general term coined for a lifestyle without drugs, alcohol, or promiscuous sex; some people even add vegetarianism and animal rights onto it. Either way, at its core, the straight-edge movement encourages people to live beyond the influences of drugs and alcohol, and to maintain a high level of respect for themselves and for others.
This is why I came up with the idea of starting a venture called the Straight-Edge Alliance, to promote these very ideals. It would be aimed at teenagers and young adults (ideally college age), and offer a kind of social support system for people living without these harmful things in their lives. It would help people to better handle peer pressure and maybe even help some to kick harmful habits in their lives.
If anyone is interested in this venture, email; me at rhapsodyinblu@gmail.com AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and post a response to this blog.
Thanx and keep up the good work!!!

Hi Jennifer,
You may want to create a team profile for this Venture Idea. In the left sidebar you will see a link called "Create Team Profile" that will allow you to do this. That way, users browsing the teams looking for similar interests will see it & contact you.
Re: Team Members Wanted- Venture Idea- "Straight-Edge" support s
Hey Jennifer,
I really like this idea. Many of my friends were/are straight-edge and I know that there are times, especially when they attend parties, when they need some extra support in their decision. I also think that there are some people who have heard the term "straight-edge" and primarily associate it with a certain hipster-like fashion sense versus the wonderful personal mental and physical health ideals that you are describing. Do you have any ideas for recruitment at this stage? It sounds like you are thinking on a pretty large scale and I would love to hear some of your ideas. Also, I would love to hear some of the advice that you have to offer, especially around alternative ways to "get the rush" that so many people seem able to find only through drugs and alcohol. I'm thinking of things like extreme sports and spinning around in big circles until you collapse laughing. One of my primary interests is thinking through money-free activities; much like drug and alcohol use, I think that many people simply forget or can not see alternatives to consumer-based fun.
Have you thought about using the forum on Drugs and You to open up discussion? Keep the great ideas rollin'!

Re: Team Members Wanted- Venture Idea- "Straight-Edge" support s
Hi -
I really like your idea. I've never heard the term straight-edge before, but by the way you describe it - I think that I hold much of the values that straight-edge people do. I am interested in hearing more, and if you need any help, let me know. I'll help anyway I can!

I wholeheartedly support this idea, and would love to be a part of this venture.
As a junior at a public intercity high-school, where we have drive-byes at prom parties, at least 20 students suspended at each dance for drinking/drugs, and where one of our nearby schools has the highest STD count in the state, or at least the district (thats actually their class cheer: "S-T-Ds. S-T-Ds.) I appreciate the need for a straight-edge movement.
